Mrs. Bush Helping Kids Beat Drugs
Mrs. Bush, building upon the success of the White House Conference on Helping Americas Youth at Howard University in the fall of 2005, began working with State and local partners to host regional conferences throughout the United States in 2006. The two regional conferences, held in Indianapolis and Denver, provided training for community leaders and a speaker series on the current status of Americas youth and successful methods for helping to make a difference in their lives. Mrs. Bush also traveled to many parts of the country to meet with young people and visit schools, after-school drug rehab, and youth courts. What these drug rehab all demonstrated is that adults can have the greatest effect on young people by caring for them, increasing their social connections, and helping them reach their full potential.
